We are pleased to present a non-thematic issue of the Journal of Specialised Translation (Issue 42), which features a broad range of papers, covering theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of specialised translation. We received 123 papers, of which 13 were accepted for publication (acceptance rate of 11%).

Issue 42 starts with papers exploring professional and non-professional profiles of in-house translators (Schlager and Risku), medical translators (Chereji), video game localisation testers (Calvo-Ferrer & Muñoz Villena), audio describers (Nakajima & Mitobe), and fansubbers (Gao & Shen). The next section comprises papers on how legal interpreters use academic research (Martínez-Gómez & Wallace) and how Islamic legal terminology is recontextualised in English-speaking discourse (Roshdy). The remaining papers discuss AVT and accessibility: Jankowska on pivot templates in audio description, Fresno on live captioning in newscasts, Flis & Szarkowska on young viewers’ AVT preferences, Lu & Chen on danmu subtitled online video streaming, and Mansi on activist subtitling. Finally, Chen discusses the role of subtitles in vocabulary learning. The issue is accompanied by interviews with Douglas Robinson on his career in translation and translation studies and with Małgorzata Tryuk on community interpreting.

Last but not least, Issue 42 comprises five book reviews: Tesseur’s Translation as Social Justice reviewed by Moreno-Rivero, Halverson & Munday’s Interlingual Readings of Political Discourse reviewed by Pan, Bowker’s De-mystifying Translation reviewed by Mellinger, Aixelá & Olalla-Soler’s 50 Years Later. What Have We Learnt after Holmes reviewed by Linder and Quinci’s Translation competence reviewed by Korpal.
