Editorial

We are delighted to present Issue 44 of the Journal of Specialised Translation, a non-thematic collection that reflects the richness of current research in specialised translation. This issue brings together a broad range of papers, covering theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of specialised translation. We received 124 papers, of which 10 were accepted for publication (acceptance rate of 8%).

Issue 44 opens with papers exploring translator competence and expertise (Dam et al.) and the use of machine translation in the medical field (Muñoz-Miquel). The next section comprises papers on AVT and accessibility: Lardeli et al. on non-binary genders in AVT, Helal Birjandi on audio describing humour, Chen on the reception of Chinese dubbesse, and Szarkowska et al. on subtitle processing in L1 and L2. The final section comprises a selection of papers on: quality in simultaneous interpreting (Zhao & Pöchhacker), simiplification in translated Chinese (Zhen), reception of food translation (Chen and Zhang) and a Spanish paper on the translation of assisted reproduction technology websites (Pontrandolfo and Sarni). The issue is accompanied by interviews with Agnieszka Szarkowska on audiovisual translation and Miguel A. Jiménez-Crespo on translation and localisation.

Last but not least, we are pleased to include five reviews of recent monographs: García Fernández’s La traducción médico-sanitaria: profesión y formación reviewed by Moreno-Rivero, Neather’s Translating for Museums, Galleries and Heritage Sites reviewed by Li & Du, Winters et al.’s Translation, Interpreting and Technological Change reviewed by Shen & Yu, Bolaños García-Escribano’s Practices, Education and Technology in Audiovisual Translation reviewed by Ávila-Cabrera and Tipton’s The Routledge Guide to Teaching Ethics in Translation and Interpreting Education reviewed by Zhao.
