Abstract

This paper analyses the results of the survey conducted in 2020 among the members of the Colegio de Traductores Públicos del Uruguay. Using SPSS and XLSTAT, we examined 102 responses to calculate the frequencies of the different main translation areas, working languages, income, and geographical origin of clients, as well as the different statistical relationships between them to establish if they are independent variables or if they have some degree of association between them. We conclude that, in our population, English is the most frequent working language, the legal area is the most frequent translation domain, the annual translation income of 54 % of Uruguayan certified translators falls below 10.000 USD in the 'low' category, and 20 % of translators work mainly with foreign clients. We also found associations between: (a) translation in the legal field and translation in a language different than English, (b) translation area and geographic location of clients in the case of the legal area, (c) low translation income and translation working language, (d) translation income and geographic location of clients.
